Poster guidelines
Posters will be on display for the duration of the conference. Authors will be given a specific time to be in attendance during the following poster sessions:
Monday 2 December, 8.00am to 9.00am – poster session
Tuesday 3 December, 8.00am to 9.00am – poster session
Tuesday 3 December, 12.30pm to 2.00pm – student poster prize session
Student posters will be short listed for a special poster prize session to be held on Tuesday.
How should posters be constructed?
Total poster size should not exceed 841 millimetres wide x 1189 millimetres high (AO size). POSTERS LARGER THAN THIS SIZE CANNOT BE ACCOMMODATED.
Posters should be prepared in portrait format. While it is recommended that the poster be prepared on a single page, other presentation formats are acceptable so long as the total contents of the poster will fit within the allocated space on the poster board.
Velcro adhesive will be available at the conference registration desk to fix your poster to the numbered poster board. On arrival, please make your way to the ASM Registration Desk located on Level 2, RACV City Club, where staff will assist with your registration and direct you to the poster presentation set-up area. Posters can be displayed from 7am on Monday 2 December.
What should a poster contain?
The poster should have a title banner that includes the study title, names and affiliations of authors.
The poster should present a concise summary of your study and should include:
• Introduction/background
• Objectives/study questions
• Design/setting
• Methods (if study is an intervention, describe how it was carried out)
• Results (including charts and graphs)
• Implications/conclusions
• Funding source(s).
You do not need to include your abstract on the poster.
What fonts and colours should be used on the poster?
Use large fonts to make your poster more readable. The following font sizes are recommended:
Title Bar: 42-48 point bold, title of study in all capitals.
Headers: 30-36 point bold (for example, Introduction, or Objectives).
Body Text: at least 20 point (should be able to read from a distance of 2 metres).
Black or dark blue text on white will be easiest to read.
Visually appealing materials (photographs, maps, graphs, etc.) will make the poster more attractive, and they should be included to complement the text of your poster.
